Some women do not cast spells. They are the spell.
Circe is one of the most enigmatic figures in the Odyssey: a sorceress, a seductress, and the mistress of an island suspended between the world of mortals and that of the gods.
Yet reducing her to the enchantress who transforms men into animals would mean overlooking the most fascinating part of her story.
The Κίρκη earrings, asymmetrical and entirely handcrafted in gold-toned stainless steel, are born from this duality: the woman and the sorceress, desire and power, enchantment and knowledge.
One earring features a delicate openwork heart, paired with a faceted Czech glass bead in shimmering shades of blue and violet, and an openwork sun.
The heart evokes Circe's more human and seductive nature, while the sun recalls her divine heritage and her connection to Helios, god of the Sun and her father.
The other earring features an intricate multi-pointed luminous star connector, accompanied by the same iridescent bead and an open hand topped with an eye.
The hand evokes the gesture of the sorceress, her ability to transform and shape the world around her; the eye becomes a symbol of knowledge, perception, and the kind of magic that allows Circe to see beyond what others can see.
The iridescent bead runs through both earrings like a connecting thread: blue, violet, light, and shadow meet within the same surface, just as the many sides of Circe meet within the same woman.
In the Odyssey, after initially hindering Odysseus, Circe becomes an essential figure in his journey: she is the one who shows him the path to the Underworld and prepares him for the trials that await him.
Circe is therefore not merely the woman who transforms others.
She is also the woman who, after meeting Odysseus, transforms his journey.

The Roots of the Myth 🌿
Circe in the Odyssey
Circe is the daughter of Helios and the nymph Perseis and lives on the island of Aeaea. In the Odyssey, Odysseus and his companions reach her dwelling during their long journey towards Ithaca.
Through her magic, Circe transforms Odysseus' companions into pigs. The hero, protected by the herb moly given to him by Hermes, is able to resist her enchantments.
Their encounter gives rise to a relationship that changes the course of the journey: Circe welcomes Odysseus and his men and, when the time comes to leave, becomes a true guide. She tells Odysseus that he must descend into the Underworld to seek the counsel of the prophet Tiresias and gives him guidance for the trials that lie ahead.
Her story therefore embodies one of the deepest themes of Nóstos: transformation as a necessary part of the journey.
Circe is not merely a stop along Odysseus' path. She is one of the figures through whom the hero changes enough to continue his journey home.
