“She of the gleaming eyes.”
Among the gods of Olympus, Athena is not only a goddess of war: she is the goddess of war guided by thought, of strategy, intelligence, and the wisdom to know when to fight and when to wait.
The Γλαυκῶπις earrings are born from this idea: two different halves of the same goddess, united by the balance between strength and wisdom.
Asymmetrical and entirely made of silver-toned stainless steel, they portray Athena through some of her most iconic symbols.
One earring features a delicate hand holding a freshwater pearl and a small olive-green Czech crystal, together with an owl, the sacred bird of Athena and a symbol of her ability to see beyond appearances.
The other features a leafy branch inspired by the olive tree, sacred to Athena and a symbol of peace, prosperity, and civilization. From it hang an olive-green Czech glass bead and a small circular pendant engraved with the words:
“Even strength must bow to wisdom sometimes.”
Because true strength does not always mean imposing oneself.
Sometimes it means knowing when to stop, observe, and choose the wiser path.
Perhaps this is also why Athena plays such an important role in the Odyssey: beside Odysseus, the hero of many turns and many resources, the goddess becomes an unseen guide who recognizes the value of intelligence and cunning, knowing when it is time to act and when it is time to wait.
Two different earrings, therefore, but inseparable: the hand that acts and the olive branch that calls for wisdom; strength and mind; gesture and choice.

The Roots of the Myth 🌿
Athena in the Homeric tradition
Athena appears throughout the Odyssey as the divine protector of Odysseus and Telemachus, embodying the kind of strategic intelligence and foresight that allows the hero to navigate his long journey home.
The owl and olive tree evoke two of the symbols most deeply associated with the goddess in Greek tradition. The owl became an emblem of Athena's wisdom and perception, while the olive tree is connected to the foundation and identity of Athens, where Athena's gift of the olive tree is central to the myth of her contest with Poseidon.
The phrase engraved on the pendant, “Even strength must bow to wisdom sometimes,” is a contemporary interpretation of the goddess and is not a quotation from an ancient text.
