She who conceals.

Far from Ithaca, far from the world of mortals, Calypso lives on an island suspended beyond ordinary time. She is an immortal goddess who loves a man destined to leave her.

The Καλυψώ necklace is born from this paradox: the immortality of a goddess and the fragility of a love that, no matter how deep, cannot keep someone from returning home.

Entirely handcrafted in gold-toned stainless steel, the necklace features a distinctive coin chain adorned with several symbolic elements inspired by the nymph.

At its center hangs a gold-toned disc. On the front, a raised heart sends delicate rays outward, evoking a love that radiates light and, at the same time, cannot stop burning.

On the back, a phrase is engraved — not from the Odyssey, but one that captures the intimate and melancholic perspective of this interpretation of Calypso:

“you left like I was never a reason to stay.”

Because a story can also be told from the point of view of the one who is left behind.

On either side of the central pendant, a Tree of Life and an hourglass evoke the theme of eternity: life continuing without end, and time taking on an entirely different meaning for an immortal being.

A sun illuminates one side of the composition, while on the other, a delicate shell adorned with two zircon crystals evokes the sea and the island of Ogygia, the remote place where Calypso lives and welcomes Odysseus.

In this necklace, Calypso is not merely the nymph who keeps the hero away from Ithaca. She is an immortal woman who, for one brief moment in her eternity, loves someone who belongs to time.

And perhaps her deepest sorrow is not simply that Odysseus leaves.

It is knowing that he can return home, while she will remain there forever, carrying the memory with her.

The Roots of the Myth 🌿

Calypso between Homer and Pavese

Calypso appears in the Odyssey as an immortal nymph who lives on the island of Ogygia, where she welcomes Odysseus after his shipwreck and keeps him with her for seven years.

Her name, Καλυψώ (Kalypsṓ), is traditionally connected to the Greek verb kalýptō, meaning “to hide”, “to conceal”, or “to cover”. Calypso is therefore both the one who lives in a remote and hidden place and the one who envelops Odysseus, keeping him apart from the world to which he belongs.

In the Odyssey, Zeus eventually commands the nymph to let him go. Odysseus longs to return to Ithaca and Calypso, despite her grief, accepts the will of the gods and helps him prepare for his departure.

It is precisely this dimension of the myth — the relationship between immortality, love, and the impossibility of holding on to someone who belongs to time — that deeply inspired the Calypso of Nóstos.

One of the most important roots of this interpretation is Dialogues with Leucò by Cesare Pavese, particularly the dialogue The Island, in which the encounter between Calypso and Odysseus is explored from a perspective profoundly different from that of the epic.

Pavese places Calypso's solitude and the paradox of her immortality at the heart of the dialogue: an immortal goddess encounters a man who longs to return to the mortal world, even knowing that this world is fragile, limited, and destined to end.

In this reinterpretation, Calypso is not simply the woman who keeps Odysseus from returning home. She is also the one who is left behind, condemned to continue living while the man she loves is able to return to his own life.

It is from this encounter between the Homeric myth and Pavese's voice that the Calypso of Nóstos emerges: a figure suspended between eternity and solitude, for whom love is not enough to stop time or persuade someone to stay.

The phrase engraved on the back of the pendant, “you left like I was never a reason to stay.”, is neither a quotation from the Odyssey nor from Pavese, but a contemporary reinterpretation of this perspective: words Calypso might have spoken if, after millennia of silence, she had finally been given the chance to tell her side of the story.
